CHAPMAN LADIES GOLF

News from the Lady Captain

On the 27th-31stof March Danielle Bekker, Emily Jones and Margaret Nyamukondiwa were selected by the ZLGU to represent Zimbabwe in the 23rd Annual Africa Junior Golf Team Championship held at Royal Harare Golf Club. There were four girls U19 teams participating including South Africa, Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Danielle was selected to be the team Captain. The winning girl team would go forward to play the World Junior Team Championships in Japan. South Africa sent a very strong team who were formidable opponents – their top player Kajal Mistry beat the course record of 70 set by Michelle Burmeister in 1999 by shooting 69 on Tuesday 28th MARCH – AND THEN BEAT HER OWN RECORD ON Thursday 30th March by shooting 67.
Our girls came second in the team event and fought hard. Nonetheless they were proud to beat Kenya and Zambia convincingly although sadly nowhere near good enough to challenge the South African girls.
On the 4th -7th of April Emily Jones and Danielle Bekker were representing Zimbabwe Ladies in Lesotho where they competed against South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia and Botswana in the Regional All Africa Challenge Trophy. Zimbabwe ended in the 2nd place to South Africa.

Future Fixtures

  • 7 May- Danielle and Emily will be playing in the Gauteng Junior Open at Johannesburg County Club.
  • End of May Danielle will participate in the European Junior Open in Scotland.

The ladies Club Championships will be on the 13th and 14th of May. All lady golfers are encouraged to play.
